As we understand, it basically the javascript runtime built on V8 engine which we are using in Google-Chrome to process javascript.it enables the capabilities to process javascript as server side, networking layer, shell scripting, and over hardware devices with a minimal layer of the suitable operating system.

What is Node.js? well, this question seems simple for people familiar with the v8 engine. but still, I see confusion among people who are getting started with Node.js. whether it is virtual machine like JVM? or a server? or a language? Well, Node.js is a cross-platform Javascript runtime environment which runs on top of an operating system layer gives the capability to process javascript code. It is a set of libraries for javascript which allows it to be used outside of the browser. it brings the capability to ship, package & javascript code.
